For example, looking at this power exercise below that could be used to build power for any upper body pushing action;
  1. Does he have good enough shoulder girdle strength and stability to do this safely?
  2. Are his abdominals strong enough to support his back when he lands?
  3. Is he activating the right muscles or overloading other muscle groups because he doesn't have the right muscle activation?
  4. Is he flexible enough in the right areas around his chest to do this safely?
  5. Has he built up adequate strength progressively to attempt this type of power movement
  6. Is this the right exercise for his particular sport/need?

From our experience, so many people are nowhere near their physical and mental potential when it comes to their conditioning for their choice of sports.  We have seen this first hand after dealing with multiple national and world class athletes over the years.

By listening to your particular training issues, assessing your weaknesses and examining your strengths, we can design a well balanced programme that will result in a better, more balanced and effective athlete.  From a micro programme right up to a full periodisation plan for the full season, coordinating with your sport’s trainers where necessary.

Let us do all the analysis and planning, we just need you to do the hard work!!

  • Is your hip flexibility sufficient allowing you to stride out correctly and cover more distance with each stride?  Think of African runners!
  • Have your legs and hips got adequate specific strength and stamina to help you propel yourself up hills without unnecessary effort?
  • Are you trying to get the most out of your aerobic fitness before you have even built a solid aerobic fitness foundation?
  • As a swimmer, are you doing the right exercises to help stabilise your shoulder joints, for a decreased risk of shoulder injury, in particular the pinching pain associated when lifting your arm above your head?
  • Does your core function as it should?  Not sure, we can tell you.
  • Do you generate your forehand power in tennis from your arm or by using your entire body?
  • Do you often get injured for no apparent reason? Yes?  When the last time you checked that your muscle balance throughout your body was in fact balanced?

As most of you will know, the gym plays a big part in the overall conditioning of most athletes.  It doesn’t have to be the be all and end all, but it should be playing a part somewhere in your plan.
Whether you want elite fitness or just to side step that co worker with ease next touch season, let us see where you are at with your exercise, we’ll assess your weaknesses and go from there.

As part of 151's 14 day trials you will have be taken through an assessment process allowing time to discuss your specific training needs which will allow the trainer to compile the most effective programme for you for your stage of training.

Discover your true athletic potential by working on every aspect of your conditioning, especially your weaknesses not just your strengths all the time.
